There are a number of technical definitions out on the interwebs that can tell you what the word marketing means, so I will share my personal ethos:
Marketing is the implementation of specific strategies to communicate with your customer either directly or indirectly by meeting your ideal customer where they are at in order to help solve their problem
Regardless of what type of business you run or the class of services or product you offer, at the heart you want to make money. This is not evil and there is nothing wrong with trying to build your dream lifestyle while helping to solve a problem or concern with your product or service.
Marketing is the key to connecting with new customers to grow your business and help them find their solution so that you can reach your business goals.
Every business is unique, but I will always recommend starting by defining your ideal customer. Ask yourself and your team the following questions to get started:
- What problem does your customer have?
- What can you do to solve the problem?
- How can you let your customer know that you have a solution?
Once you have crystal clear answers to the above question, you can now start marketing!
